Ann D ShaferProfessionally I have been a social worker since 1980. After working in Illinois as a school social worker for 6 years, my husband and I moved to Los Alamos, New Mexico where I worked as a therapist for 6 years. I gradually moved into the area of case management with elderly and handicapped. I had decided to retire in 2000; however, after a forest fire destroyed over 400 residences in our town, I started doing case management with fire survivors. That led to my heading a grant to work with senior citizens affected by the fire and eventually led to my current job working with frail elderly through our local senior center. I now call myself a retirement dropout!

My interest in conscious aging and the sage-ing movement started back in the late 1990’s and led to my completion in 2009 of the Certified Sage-ing Leader program with the Sage-ing Guild.

I have been weaving for over 35 years and have been creating beadwork for almost 20 years. My work has been presented in numerous shows ranging from international to local shows, plus I have had my beadwork represented in several books. My weaving and beadwork provide a restful alternative to my social work career.

I have master’s degrees in both education and social work. My husband and I and our Scottish terrier currently live in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Some of my other interests include gardening, exercising, and taking care of our Scottie.
